I’m Not Going to Die Sitting Here

Gracious Father,

I come before You today with an open heart and a yearning spirit. Thank You for the breath of life and the stirring of courage You place within me, in my wife, children, and grandchildren. Lord, there are moments when fear grips me, when uncertainty causes me to sit still, stuck in situations that feel overwhelming. But today, I declare in faith: I will not die where I am. I will not be paralyzed by fear, disappointment, or diagnosis.

Just as You stirred the hearts of the four lepers to move toward their miracle, stir my heart, our hearts now. Help me (us) to rise up, to trust You with the next step—even when the path is unclear. I welcome Your presence in this moment. Let this devotional blog be more than words—let it be fuel for a fresh start, a spiritual awakening, and a bold declaration of life for me and those who read it. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.

A Call to Move Forward in Faith

Every now and then, a phrase grabs your spirit and refuses to let go.

Recently, my wife Star and I received a powerful update from our dear friend, co-laborer in missions, and devout believer, Ms. Tina. She shared a recent health episode that caught her off guard—a moment that could have easily discouraged or derailed her. After receiving a cautious diagnosis from her doctor, she paused to reflect—but not to quit. What she said next became the spark for this devotional:

“I’m not going to die sitting here.”

That one sentence wasn’t just a personal declaration—it was a prophetic word for anyone who has ever felt stuck, weary, or tempted to give up. It was a faith-filled refusal to be defined by fear, diagnosis, or difficulty. And it echoed the powerful words of Scripture:

“Why should we sit here waiting to die?”— 2 Kings 7:3 (NLT)

You Can’t Stay Here

There comes a time in every believer’s life when a holy restlessness stirs. We realize we’ve been sitting too long—in fear, in doubt, in complacency. That’s exactly where four lepers found themselves outside the gates of Samaria during a severe famine. Outcasts. Hungry. Rejected. And then came the question that shifted everything:

“Why should we sit here until we die?”— 2 Kings 7:3 (NKJV)

Stuck is not where you’re meant to stay. The lepers realized doing nothing would guarantee death. But doing something—even walking into the unknown—held the possibility of life. That single decision led to a miracle that impacted an entire city.

“Faith without works is dead.”— James 2:17 (NKJV)

Inaction may feel safe, but it often leads to spiritual decay. God is calling us not to sit in fear or failure—but to rise.

Pressed, But Not Crushed

Life can feel like a constant battle. You may be worn out from spiritual warfare, financial pressure, broken relationships, or grief. But hear this: you may feel pressed, but you are not powerless.

“We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.”— 2 Corinthians 4:8–9 (NLT)

You’re still standing because God has kept you. So don’t die in your discouragement. Don’t give up in your struggle. Don’t settle in your suffering. Get up. Move forward.

God Moves When We Move

The lepers didn’t know what would happen when they stepped toward the enemy’s camp. But God had already gone ahead of them. Scripture says the Lord caused the enemy to hear a mighty army approaching—they fled, leaving behind food, clothes, and treasure.

Sometimes, all heaven is waiting for is your first step. When you move in faith, God moves in power.

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way.”— Psalm 37:23 (NKJV)

Get Up—Even If You're Afraid

Fear will paralyze you. Pride will preserve your comfort. But faith pushes you beyond both. Maybe you’ve been afraid to apply, to forgive, to speak, to obey, or to believe again. But staying in that same spiritual posture will only drain your soul.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”— 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)

You don’t need perfect clarity to take the first step. You just need courage.

Don’t Die Where You Are

Friend, what has you stuck? Has fear, shame, or comfort become your chair of choice? The four lepers could have died sitting, but they chose to walk—and their obedience saved a city. Your step of faith may impact more than just you. Declare it today with the same boldness Ms. Tina did:

“I’m not going to die sitting here.”
“Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.”— Isaiah 60:1 (NKJV)

Lord, help me to rise from every place of stagnation. Stir in me the faith to move forward even when I don’t know what’s next. I may feel pressed, but I’m not crushed. I may feel confused, but I’m not forsaken. I will not die in this place—I will walk into the future You’ve prepared for me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Suggested Gospel/worship Songs to bring you comfort:

1. “I’m Still Here” – By Dorinda Clark-Cole

Key lyric: “Through it all, I made it through another day's journey — God kept me here.”This song reflects the resilience and grace that God gives us even when life tries to knock us down. It mirrors the message of surviving, rising, and pressing on in faith.

2. “Stand” – By Donnie McClurkin

Key lyric: “After you’ve done all you can, you just stand.”This anthem reminds us that standing in faith—even when we feel we’ve done all we can—is a victory. It reinforces the idea of refusing to die spiritually, emotionally, or mentally where we are.
