Connecting the Hearts of the People to the Heart of God

What is the Seed Leadership Summit?

Psalm 67:4 — Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you judge the peoples with equity and guide the nations upon earth. How do we fulfill the Great Commission and encourage “unity” among the nations?

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the constant barrage of conflict, division, and pain in the world, is there a solution? In a world so divided, is unity possible? Thankfully, things are not as hopeless as they seem. Through all the divisiveness — God comes toward us. Without question, He has been putting into motion His long-term plan to rescue us from ourselves, our brokenness, and a divided world. He says, “Let the nations be glad and sing for joy”. Our charge is to come together in community, learn from one another, koinonia with one another, abide with one another, break bread with one another. 1 Peter 3:8: Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted and keep a humble attitude.

Jesus said about unity that it is possible and desirable for His followers to be one as He and the Father are one (John 17). He prayed to His Father for this unity. When Jesus said go and make disciples of all nations, He said it with unity in mind.

“Connecting the Hearts of the People to the Heart of God.”

In 1998, we started going on short-term mission trips to Haiti, South Africa, and by 2004, to Kenya. Those trips were impactful and eye-openers. We learned a lot about God, others, and ourselves. During our travels, we observed church teams comprised of many youth and adult leaders. It was encouraging to witness their commitment to travel and their passion to do kingdom work. However, what disturbed us, and later challenged us, was the observance of seeing very few African American on those teams. If we saw a team of 20 youth with maybe 8 adult leaders, there may have been just one person of color (Black) in a company of a mostly all-Caucasian short-term mission team. It is reported that African Americans make up less than half of 1% of the current global missionary

force. Arguably, this statistic regarding the involvement of African Americans in missions is a dismal one. This fact moved us to action in launching Sowing Seeds of Joy. Our objective became one of mobilizing Blacks, African Americans, and communities of color for the advancement of God’s kingdom and the Great Commission.
