Who is Jesus to You?

"But what about you He asked. Who do you say I am?" Matthew 16:15 NIV

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today with grateful hearts, thanking You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ. As we open Your Word, remove every distraction and help us see Jesus more clearly than ever before. May this not simply be a lesson about Him, but an encounter with Him. Reveal to us who He truly is and what it means to follow Him. Transform our hearts as we behold Your Son.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, 'Who do people say that the Son of Man is?’

They replied, 'Some say John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’

'But you,' he asked them, 'who do you say that I am?’

Simon Peter answered, 'You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.'

Jesus asked this question in Caesarea Philippi; a city filled with temples dedicated to false gods and the worship of Caesar. It was a place where people were surrounded by competing claims about who deserved worship.

Against that backdrop, Jesus asked perhaps the most important question anyone will ever answer:

"Who do you say that I am?"

Notice He first asked what everyone else believed.

Then He made it personal.

Not...

"Who does your pastor say I am?"

Not...

"Who do your parents say I am?"

Not...

"Who does your church say I am?"

But...

"Who do YOU say that I am?"

Because eternity is not determined by someone else's answer.

It is determined by yours.

Many people admire Jesus.

Some respect Him.

Others quote Him.

Many wear crosses around their necks.

But admiration is not discipleship.

Knowing facts about Jesus is not the same as knowing Jesus.

The real question isn't whether you attend church.

It isn't whether you've read the Bible.

It isn't whether you've done good deeds.

The question is...

Who is Jesus to you?

Is He merely your helper when life gets difficult?

Or is He your Lord every day?

Is He simply your Savior from sin?

Or is He also the Master who directs your life?

Our answer isn't demonstrated only by our words.

It is demonstrated by how we live.

Imagine someone carrying around a photograph of a famous athlete.

They can tell you where he or she was born.

They know every statistic.

They can quote every interview.

But they've never actually met him or her.

Many people know about Jesus that way.

They know the Christmas story.

They know about the cross.

They know He rose again.

Yet they've never truly surrendered their lives to Him.

Christianity is not simply knowing information about Christ.

It is walking daily in relationship with Him.

The greatest question you will ever answer is not:

"What career did I choose?"

"How much money did I make?"

"How successful was I?"

The greatest question is the one Jesus asked nearly two thousand years ago:

"Who do you say that I am?“

An important question for each of us in 2026 is....

“What will I do with Jesus?

Your answer shapes your worship.

It shapes your decisions.

It shapes your eternity.

When Jesus is truly Lord, every other part of life finds its proper place.

Today, don't let Jesus remain only a subject to study or a name to mention. Let Him be the Lord you trust, the Savior you adore, and the King you follow. Because how you answer His question "Who do you say that I am?" will shape every other answer you give in life.

Lord Jesus,

You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God. Forgive us for the times we have reduced You to someone we call upon only in moments of need. Help us to know You more deeply, love You more completely, and follow You more faithfully.

Be more than our Savior, be the Lord of every conversation, every decision, every relationship, and every dream. May our lives declare what our lips confess: that You alone are worthy of our worship and our obedience.

When others see us today, may they catch a glimpse of Christ living within us. Strengthen us to walk in humility, courage, and faithfulness until the day we see You face to face.

In Your holy and powerful name, we pray,
