Heavenly Father, strengthen our hearts when the world around us gives up too easily. Help us to persevere in faith, to stand firm in the race You’ve called us to run, and to remember that You reward endurance and steadfastness. In Jesus’ name, amen.
“The world is full of quitters.”
Those words, spoken by artist Amy Sherrill during her appearance on 60 Minutes, echoed like a trumpet blast of truth. In just a few simple words, she exposed a deep flaw in our culture—
one that celebrates convenience over commitment and comfort over conviction.
We see it everywhere: people starting strong but fading fast—quitting relationships, ministries, dreams, and even faith journeys when life gets hard. Yet, God never called His children to be quitters. He calls us to be finishers.
When I was a teenager attending Rockledge High School in Florida, I ran a 26-mile marathon that started at the Astro Baseball Stadium in Cocoa and ended near Cape Kennedy, close to Cocoa Beach.
At the start, everything felt easy—the excitement, the rhythm, the cheering along the way. But halfway through, exhaustion began to set in. My legs tightened, my lungs burned, and my mind whispered the word I didn’t want to hear: quit.
As the miles stretched out before me, I saw others drop out—good runners who decided the pain wasn’t worth the prize. And I’ll be honest, I thought about joining them. But something deep inside—something God-given—rose up in me and said, “You’ve come too far to turn back now.”
So, step by step, I pressed on. My pace slowed, my body protested, but my spirit refused to give up. And when I finally crossed that finish line near Cape Kennedy, there were no cameras or crowds—just a quiet victory in my soul. I had finished what I started.
That race taught me something profound: the strength to finish doesn’t come from the body; it comes from the heart—and ultimately, from God.
Life is like that marathon. The road can be long and painful, and the temptation to quit will always be there. But every finish line we cross reminds us that perseverance is worth it. As Galatians 6:9 declares, “We will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
A World of Quitters vs. A Kingdom of Finishers
In a world full of quitters, God is raising up finishers—men and women who will one day echo the Apostle Paul’s words:“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7
Finishers are not those who never struggle—they’re those who never stop. They push through pain with purpose, not because they have the strength, but because they serve a God who gives it.
So, when you feel like quitting—on your dream, your ministry, or your faith—remember: quitting might give you relief, but endurance will give you reward. The crown is not given to those who start the race, but to those who finish it.
Where in your life have you been tempted to quit prematurely?
What would it look like to invite God’s strength into that struggle?
Who might be inspired by your perseverance as a testimony of God’s faithfulness?

Gospel songs to enhance your worship as you decide not to quit....
“I’m Still Here” – The Williams Brothers
“I Don’t Feel No Ways Tired” – Rev. James Cleveland
Lord, when I grow weary, remind me that You never quit on me. Give me the strength to keep going, to finish the assignments You’ve entrusted to me, and to glorify You through my endurance. May my life reflect that, in Christ, quitting is not an option. Amen.
