“Give Me a C” – The Grade That Glorifies God

The 3 C’s to a Successful Marriage (Plus One)

"Getting a 'C' on a class project may be disappointing......but when it comes to the lifelong covenant of marriage, “Give me a C” isn’t failure—it’s favor. In fact, I want three of them: Christ, Commitment, and Communication—plus one more for extra credit: Service.

Let’s break down this God-honoring “C” average:

1. Christ – The Cornerstone

"Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain." – Psalm 127:1A Christ-centered marriage builds on an unshakable foundation. When Jesus is the architect, He aligns hearts, tempers egos, and empowers us to love beyond our own strength.

If you're struggling in your marriage, check your blueprint. Is Christ at the center? Do you pray together, serve together, grow together?

2. Commitment – A Covenant Beyond Emotion

"Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate." – Mark 10:9Love is more than feeling—it's faithfulness. When the butterflies are gone, commitment stays. It echoes God's unwavering love for His people.

What vows have you forgotten? Are you still choosing your spouse daily, especially in the hard seasons?

3. Communication – The Lifeline of Unity

"Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you should answer each person." – Colossians 4:6Good communication builds trust. It means listening with empathy, speaking the truth in love, and staying connected even in conflict.

Are you creating a safe space for your spouse’s voice? Or just preparing your reply while they talk?

+1. Service – Love in Action

"Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve..." – Matthew 20:28True greatness in marriage is found not in grasping, but in giving. Serving each other, not keeping score, reflects Christ’s love best.

What’s one way you can serve your spouse today—not out of duty, but delight?

So yes, in school a “C” might feel like a loss. But in the classroom of covenant love, “Give me a C”—Christ, Commitment, Communication—plus Service. That’s the grade that glorifies God and graduates us into deeper unity, grace, and joy.

A Final Thought ....

Marriage is not a project—it’s a partnership. It’s not about perfection but progress. When couples choose to center their lives on Christ, stay committed through seasons, communicate with care, and serve with humility, they experience not just survival, but sacred success.
