“Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” — Ephesians 5:14 (ESV)
In a time when “woke” has become a lightning rod for division, confusion, and controversy, God is calling His people to redeem its true essence—spiritual alertness. To be awake is to be aware—of God's fingerprints in creation, His voice in the Scriptures, His Spirit at work in people, and His heart for justice. It's not a political movement, but a Kingdom mandate. The enemy works in darkness, but those who are children of the light must remain spiritually conscious.
Jesus often used the language of wakefulness:
“Watch and pray…” (Matthew 26:41)
“Stay awake…” (Mark 13:37)
“Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake…” (Luke 12:37)
Being spiritually “woke” means recognizing injustice and responding with love. It means discerning truth in a world of noise. It means not sleeping through the suffering of others or the movement of God in this generation.
Lord, awaken us to You. Help us not to slumber in comfort while the world groans for healing. Make us alert to injustice, responsive to Your Spirit, and alive in Your purpose.
May we live in the light—awake, aware, and aligned with Your will.
Amen.
