Mission Opportunity:  Travel-Learn, Youth Development & Education (film-making)

The Sowing seeds of Joy Travel Learn Program is an educational tourism tool to promote positive domestic relationships among youth, encouraging them academically using global travel as the classroom. At the same time, the program places emphasis on cross-cultural awareness, global missions, and humanitarian endeavors. The aim is to foster the traveler’s learning experience and enrich ethical values, self-worth and citizenship. SSOJ will collaborate with Inside/Out Global, a community of artist and film makers who provide opportunities for young people to tell their stories and discover their strengths through film making, to train Belizean youth. Young people in teams will create films around stories from their own lives in a one-week video workshop. One intense week, with excitement building toward a red-carpet night, takes students on a journey of creative effort and connecting to others. Why Belize. Belize is the only Central American country whose national language is English. This territory was once the center of a vast Mayan kingdom, but its modern roots were set by English pirates. Though extremely poor, Belize has the highest literacy rate in Central America and is home to some of the most beautiful reefs in the world. This is a place of extremes.

A missions trip to Belize promises to be an experience unlike any other. Our partnerships with passionate and poignant outreach organizations give our participants the unique opportunity to intimately learn, grow, and serve. Impact hundreds of youth by helping them develop a healthy self-image while giving them the opportunity to discover their self-worth. Imagine climbing ancient Mayan ruins and filming the experience at the same time. Belize is waiting. Do you hear her calling?
